Who runs Herndon Roofing Company?▸
Roofing Roughnecks, the roofing division of Kenney Construction, a Herndon-based general contractor founded in 2019 by Frank Kenney. It's the same company as the Roofing Roughnecks website.
Who actually does the work?▸
The same licensed, insured and bonded company (VA DPOR #2705187519) handles the work, not a subcontracted third party.
Are you really based in Herndon?▸
Yes. Kenney Construction is based in Herndon. It operates as a service-area business, so we come to you rather than running a showroom.
Do I need a roof repair or a full replacement?▸
It depends on the extent of the damage and the roof's overall condition. A single leak or small damaged area is usually a repair; widespread wear, multiple leaks or a roof near the end of its life usually points to replacement. We'll give you a straight answer after inspecting it.
How long does a roof last?▸
Asphalt shingle roofs commonly last 20 to 30 years; other materials can last longer. Condition and maintenance history matter as much as age.
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Herndon?▸
It depends on whether you're inside the Town of Herndon, which has its own building permit office and lists a Re-Roof permit type, or in unincorporated Fairfax County, which publishes its own list of work that does and doesn't need a permit. Your written scope should say who handles any permit.
My house is in Herndon's historic district. Does that change anything?▸
Yes. According to the Town, most exterior changes in its heritage districts need a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic District Review Board before work begins, and roof replacement is a common application.
What does a roof replacement cost?▸
The Roofing Roughnecks cost guide lists typical Northern Virginia reference ranges of $9,000–$16,000 (basic), $16,000–$28,000 (mid-range) and $28,000–$50,000+ (high-end). Those are ranges, not quotes.
What shingles do you install?▸
GAF Timberline HDZ, Timberline UHDZ and Grand Sequoia, and CertainTeed Landmark, Landmark Pro and Presidential Shake.
What should I do after storm damage?▸
Get it assessed before it gets worse. We can assess and document the damage whether you're pursuing a repair, a replacement or an insurance claim. Your insurer decides what is covered.
Do you give written estimates?▸
Yes. Every project gets a written scope so you know what's included before work starts.
What are your hours?▸
Monday – Saturday, 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM.
How do I request an estimate?▸
Call (703) 731-9208 or use the request-an-estimate form on this site, and we'll follow up to schedule a time.
